Have you sold any brooms lately? I have to admit it didn’t go well as I planned. I sold all flying and swift ground ones (15 of them or so), but didn’t have any luck with Magic Brooms. Nobody wanted to buy them so I gave them away for free after a few days of trying. I sold Swift Flying Brooms for 30-40 g a piece so I guess it was worth it in the end.
Don’t forget to get rid of the brooms before patch 2.3.2 hits - they will be changed to 14 days realtime duration! Yeah, bastards nerfed them. If nothing else, they will make a great Christmas present for random lowbies in Orgrimmar.
Anyway, back to the topic.
There are 3 recipes which are available only during Winter’s Veil, and now’s the time to take advantage of it.
Elixir of Frost Power is used in alchemy, and it’s quite good for a level 28 elixir. Winter’s Might weapon enchant is not great, but some mage twinks might like it. Lastly, Snowmaster 9000 is the only way to get Snowballs till next year’s Winter’s Veil.
The recipes aren’t that hard to get - simply do all the quests and you should easily get at least one. Kaliope has some tips on that!
If you have a profession which can use any of this recipes, learn it just for the sake of it if you want. But just like with brooms, someone will want to buy it eventually, so I suggest you pay a visit to your favorite auctioneer (I like the one on the left in Orgrimmar’s AH, how about you?) and buy as many as you can - for a reasonable price of course, which greatly depends on the realm but I’d say less than 40g.
Keep the recipes somewhere safe, and hope there won’t be too many people doing the same thing. Trust me, in 2-3 months, you will easily get over 100g per recipe.
P.S. Here’s some great tips on making gold with alchemy!
The most obvious way to make money with Alchemy is to transmute Earth to Water, since earth generally goes for 3 to 5 gold and Water goes for 15 to 20 gold. Get your Sporeggar rep up to Revered and start doing this transmute daily. It is the easies 10 to 15 gold you will ever make.
I was actually gonna make a post about it but too late now. And I wouldn’t say this is obvious - I still see dozens of tards selling Primal Might transmutes etc. in trade channel for 5 gold.
If you choose transmute mastery, I recommend transmuting either Primal Might or Skyfire Diamonds. And not for someone else’s mats and giving them the procs for a measly 5g! You’d have to be insane to do that. Take a couple of hours and farm the mats yourself or just buy it on AH.
If you have elixir or potion mastery, transmuting Primal Earth into Water is, as stated, the easiest 10-15g you will ever make. Each day.

Making gold my way:
1. Get a cash reserve of approx 1000g. Can’t make money without having money.
2. Get transmute mastery.
3. Religiously transmute skyfire diamond or earthstorm diamond every day. Try to do it around the same time every day so you don’t lose any transmutes.
4. Wait until you have about 10.
5. Find a trustworthy cutter in your guild and let him cut them to profitable diamonds (e.g. Bracing earthstorm for PVP)
6. Sell them for 110-200g a piece depending on market, situation, patches, whether it is AV weekend or not.
7. You’re easily sitting on 1500 gold in 10 days, that is if you farmed all the mats yourself. This takes way too much time - buy the mats off the AH instead. This nets you at least 70g a day.
8. Combined with daily skettis quests on two characters and you’ll have an epic mount for both in no time.
“Lastly, Snowmaster 9000 is the only way to get Snowballs till next year’s Winter’s Veil.”
Wrong, unless they nerf the snowballs too!
1 / day = 360 = 13 bag slots w/ 20 per stack. Since they’re so bloody cheap, just do as I did and buy a few bags’ worth of them to sell later!
Remember that Snowballs are also required for turning into a snowman or (according to wowhead), to use a few other abilities. So, stock, wait, wait, sell and even if it doesn’t sell right away, costing so little, the restocking should be ridiculously low, so just keep trying!
Thank you for all the great information. I love when you do these posts. I have been waiting to sell my brooms. So that is what I will do this weekend.
Question for the transmute mastery: my alchemist has transmuted Primal Mights and Earthstorm Diamonds about 25 times. He has only had it proc one time. Is this typical or just bad luck?
@someone
Yeah I should stock up on snowballs, the snowman thingie is cool
you can even do it in arenas
@kat
I never had transmute mastery so I don’t know how much it procs, but there’s an issue now with masteries, you can read more here,
Perhaps its related.
As of the 2.3 content patch, there’s currently an issue with Transmutation Mastery by which the percentage chance to receive additional results from transmutations — aside from Transmute: Primal Might — is lower than the intended value. This is likely contributing to the dearth of procs you’ve observed, and I’d like to offer my apologies for any consternation that has arisen as a result of the discrepancy. I’m happy to report that this matter should be resolved in a future patch, but your continued patience in the interim is appreciated.
As far as goldmaking with alchemy, I think elixir mastery is the best - some flasks (pure death for example) goes for 40g+ on my realm and it procs 1/10, at least for me (sometimes better, sometimes worse).
(I like the one on the left in Orgrimmar’s AH, how about you?)
Rightie is better.
@Horns
I really don’t like flasks for making money. Maybe your server is different but 40g for a flask is selling at a loss for me. Fel Lotus generally goes for about 25g, Mana Thistle 1.5g, Nightmare Vine 1.5g - 2g. Add all that up and you might as well sell the herbs.
Remember, people are more willing to buy cheap things than expensive things even if it is a better value. Elixirs will sell more quickly and you can get a higher profit margin due to the lower relative price.
You do have to consider procs as well, but as far as I can tell, elixirs and flasks proc at the same rate. About 15% for me. Making a lot of elixirs will give you a more even proc rate then making a few flasks and therefore is more dependable.
Your server maybe different but you may want to relook at what you are selling.
Graylo
Even if you pay 40g for mats and resell the flask for the same amount, it’s worth it if you get procs while doing it.
Also, it takes less time to sell 10 flasks then 100 elixirs.
