There’s no point posting opinions since most of the spells and numbers will be quite different, probably as soon as beta starts.
You can check the preview of warlock talent trees here (note the Soul Link in tier 3 :O ).
Some stuff looks pretty interesting, especially the much needed defense vs. melee (Metamorphosis), although 360% armor bonus, 10% melee damage reduction from Voidwalker and Soul Link look like overkill Your pet is desummoned when in Metamorphosis so you probably won’t get any pet bonuses - thanks to commenters for catching that. Won’t make it to live, ever. It might make it to live
Anyway…

I wouldn’t count on that armor bonus being removed before live. Take a closer look. Your pet is unsummoned and you gain “demon abilities” for the duration. Sounds a lot like pet possession a la Shartuul’s Transporter. I’m willing to bet you can’t cast your normal spells (plus, +360% of cloth is not all that impressive).
The names themselves are so damn good! Can hardly wait to put my hands on it. Surely we still need to analyze their actual effects and usability but still sounds gr8888888!
Thanks for posting(similar things are already removed from WowInsider
)
“360% armor bonus, 10% melee damage reduction from Voidwalker and Soul Link look like overkill.”
You missed the part where it says that this makes your pet despawn. Say goodbye to soul-link and all the pet bonuses when using it.
Indeed I did, thanks.
Anyway, I really like Soul Link in t3, it will probably make other trees more viable in PvP, since the lack of survivability is mostly what keeps us speccing Affliction or Destruction .
aside from being able to get your WotLK cdk the day of release by email and get a discount on your gametime cards at http://www.gamersloot.net (don’t sell gold sorry).
Does anyone know if there’s a cooldown of some kind on the Decimate? Or can you insta-cast a fire spell, then move/liftetap/dot or whatever and just do it all over again?
Insta-cast spell every 3s sounds uh… nice? =b (maybe the mana cost makes that impractical though?)
I doubt Metamorphosis will make it to live as-is. I’m thinking PvP here.
Start a fight in human form with soul-link. DoT + Drain-tank the opponent until you are near death. Pop Metamorphosis. The key here is the quote:
“You transform into a Demon, with full health and mana”.
So that’s a full heal + mana restoration. Sounds a bit like the annoyance of Paladins’ “bubble + heal to full” to me. Sounds a wee bit overpowered.
Metamorposis shouldn’t be to much of a problem, especially in 5v5
think about if your in demon form your going to have to worry about a pally casting fear on you, as well as a warlock banishing you, maybe even the possibility of being enslaved by a warlock
Against any group with a lock theres no way you would want to go into demon form, as well who knows if dispel mechanics would work on demon form
on top of that your health returns to normal when it wears off so its not close to being as annoying as a pally bubble because pallies heal themselves
needs better skins though, I would rather look like a fel elf instead of varithamas
The changes to the Demonology tree may be enough to make my Warlock my main again…
But since the Paladin trees are still not available, who knows.
I’m not particularly happy with the Affliction talents. Death’s embrace sounds helpful, but Atrocity seems very limited in it’s use. In raiding, when fighting a groups of mobs, the added corruption spells will likely break CC, and thus should not be used. When fighting a single boss, the only thing that will really come of the spell is the extra bit of bonus at the end. I can only see using it while grinding solo (perhaps PVP but I don’t know as I don’t PVP). Is Bliz trying to make an obvious “solo spec”, “PVP spec”, and “raid spec”?
WEll Frijona it would not be the right way as they normmaly are going to make balance between each talent tree.. like the trees now you are normally merging them for the best output of dps tat you like.. in the names you can see how you are gonna dps. Affliction, looks like a kinda curse so it should be the way to slowly drain the life out of our enemies. demonology. thats like beastmastery, um like, yes they are not way as good as hunters pets at all, but it make you survive very good and still mitigate some respectable dps. Destruction, thats what warlocks mainly goes for to empower the shadowbolt, its easy for us warlocks to dps so we just need a strong shadowbolt. its also for burst damage, much of it.
How good a spell is haunt! Im surprised nobody commented on it yet. Well in raids its pretty useless as it will probably break cc but in 3v3 and 5v5 its amazing. And 50% health regen from damage done.. 800 x 3 targets = 2400 health regen 6 secs after you hit the spell.. pretty decent i would say.
Also whats demonic circle about? I really dont understand it. Is it similar to mage portals or what?
Some interesting abilities there, how many of them will end up in the finished game we are gonna have to see, but what I understand the demonic circle to be is like the translocator in UT. You can set like a temporary hearth point almost - if you find yourself outnumbered, you can port yourself back to it.
Dont you guys think the destruction tree is a bit OP in PvP.
We now got a PoM-Pyro like ability. Decimate > Soulfire (ignoring immunities and obsorbtions). A Mage iceblock and you shot him with a instant Soulfire.
The insane burstdmg in destruction is not wonna see daylight imo. I mean shadowfury>immo>conf>Shadowburn> if you crit with a shadow spell you have a 60% chance to get an extra instant Immolate> instant Shadowflame(new ability)>if hit, instant incinerate/SB (backlash) > INSTANT SOULFIRE!
Okey after all that your mana pool should be -32322 but still, loads of dmg in no time at all.
Im gonna level 70>80 demo because of the new talent that make 15% of all your damage heal your pet.. just sent FG in, lifetap and drain life, you get healed, your pet get healed aswell as mana from manaleech…
But the REAL question is:
How much Spell Damage are people stacking at level 80?
*reading the Metamorphosis description*
COME ON ROGUES! COME ON!!
PS: Love Struck + Soul Link + Siphon Life = OP Warlock
o.O
I see there is spirit involved in some of those spells. Why on earth would a warlock need spirit. Spirit is sorta useless for warlocks, and you never have much : \ So i’m wondering, what the hell is it doing there?
Early reports have Spirit making something of a comeback… even on ‘lock gear.
Pally gains Divine Shield.
Warlock’s Decimate hits pally for 6k. (Critical)
Pally: NERF LOCKS.
and conflag is gonna proc pyroclasm ftw
Not a fan of needing spirit. Unless gear is going to get buffed to include spirit. At the moment my lock has 0 bonus spirit, and I really dont want to start collecting it. As for destruction, I can see the instant cast being let through. If you read the fine print, imp shadowbolt is getting nerfed to 15%. With 23% crit, it works out at roughly an extra 16% dmg for me as it is, so this’d drop to ~13%. I dont feel that an instant cast sbolt (2.4 second cast time) is going to make up for that. That said, the proposed talents make fire destruction spec viable. Might see an end to boltcannons
I’m surprised no one has meantioned the usefullness of Demonic Teleport in bgs, think about it, as soon as someone captures the flag or tries to take over base, Demonic teleport and save the day. Yay super-lock.
It will probably have a <50 yard range, otherwise your idea would just own
oh man doing pvp will be so insanely fun as affliction or destruction.
and i don’t think anyone mentioned Atrocity + Haunt will own a lot in bg
I would say:
1-Demonic Circle in the center of an arena 5vs5 ..
2-wait til lot of peeps nearby circle..
3-Demonic Teleport instant cast
4-Atrocity instant cast
5-AoE Fear instant cast
6-Haunt instant cast
….
scratch that, any tree will be insanely fun for pvping
what im wondering myself is the demonic circle ability. maybe they will make it so you cant use it while running flags in bgs i dunno.
kinda bummed since i was pretty much forced to take SL style gear up to this point since dest isnt viable in arenas though im sure lvl 80 gear will mop the floor with t5 like tbc did to nax gears.
surprised that theres no comments on shadowflame myself, will finally make the 41 point dest talent worth taking using them as a combo and possibly followed by a fear. was kind of hoping to read they tied in the dest stun chance talent with shadowflame but i havent looked at the full proposed changes yet, just the ones listed here. Anyone know about that?
I imagine that you will drop the flag like when using the engineering speed increase boots. I imagine that if a stun chance does apply to all destro spells then it would apply the same to shadowflame, though I feel that the dot element isnt as useful as the disorient that mages get from dragon’s breath. Though getting a useful close range aoe is long overdue for warlocks - afterall why on earth does hellfire have to damage us and be channeled, when mages and priests get a spammable close range aoe.
Noone comments on the fact that soullink loses the +5% damage, and in general a lev 70 demo warlock will LOSE damage by those change? And survivability too? I think by observing that and the other talents, that they are lending Demo for PvP.
I’ve always been a demo raiding lock, and I WANT to be again, so I want to have talents for PvE dps in that tree, not for uber survivability and PvP. Damn PvP is getting a lot away from this game for me -__-
The spells are changed now, no more atrocity no more decimate
