Patch 3.0.8 Notes Update

Patch 3.0.8

The Public Test Realm patch notes have been updated with the latest additions and bugfixes. Warlocks didn’t receive many changes except for a few minor bugfixes, and the long-awaited addition of snare-removal on Demonic Circle.

As for the bug fixes, here’s the list:

  • Corruption will now gain the correct damage modifiers for the creature type of the target.
  • Create Healthstone: Attempting to create a healthstone when you already have one no longer consumes mana or triggers the cooldown of this ability.
  • Demonic Circle: Teleport: the button for this ability will now darken when the Warlock is out of range of the Demonic Circle and will light up when the Warlock is in range.
  • Demon Power Scaling: Spell power gained from spirit via the Fel Armor ability will now properly affect the scaling of spell power and attack power on summoned demons.
  • Drain Mana: This spell will no longer cancel when the targets mana poll is low or the casters mana poll is full. It also now generates a very small amount of threat instead of no threat.
  • Everlasting Affliction: Will now calculate correct damage values for Corruption when it is refreshed in all cases.
  • Haunt: Will now gain correct damage modifiers for the creature type of the target. In addition, this ability is now limited to a single target as intended. This also now works properly when refreshed on its current target.
  • Mana Feed: This talent will no longer sometimes fire for warlocks who do not have the talent.
  • Master Conjuror: Tooltip revised to indicate it does not increase the damage bonuses of Firestones or Spellstones.
  • Metamorphosis: The bonus armor effect from this ability will now calculate properly and interact correctly with armor buffs and debuffs.
  • Ritual of Doom: A Doomguard summoned with this spell will now scale properly from its master’s stats.
  • Shadow Embrace: This ability will now create a separate debuff stack for each Warlock with the talent, and each warlock will benefit properly from his or her own debuff.
  • Soul Siphon: Will now gain the correct damage modifiers for the creature type of the target.
  • Unstable Affliction: Will now gain the correct damage modifiers for the creature type of the target.

In addition, there’s one other important fix which was quite annoying for everyone:

  • Arena: Dalaran Sewer: The Flush effect which pushes players out will now also remove the ability to use Demonic Circles summoned during the arena start time.

Since my warlock is a miner, I thought I should include one more huge buff:

  • Mining veins and deposits no longer require multiple hits to receive all the ore. Players will receive around the same amount of ore, stone, and gems they would have received from multiple hits.

Basically, we’re still screwed, but I’ll get to that in detail in next post (I keep saying that but can’t seem to actually write it).

    yep, we’re still screwed

  2. Remps says:

    so… we’re stuck with the 40yrd range on DT… great… and … I’m guessing we’re still going to die within one stun… great…

You guys have to remember this is a small patch. Ulduar is when we will get our overhaul. We just have to be patient and wait about 2 more months to test it and get it. We WILL get our overhaul, blizz has promised it. And please dont think they should rush on it, they are human and so are we. They are not gods sent down to fix everything and make the game pefect. It NEVER will be perfect, one class will always be 1337 or sucky.

Again, BE PATIENT! If in 3.1 we dont get our shard changes(which should be nice) and others, then yeah were screwed. THis patch was mainly for hunters.

    /rantoff!

  4. Baalzy says:

Going by what Ghostcrawler has said, I’mg guessing our “overhaul” is going to be very mild indeed. But a buff is a buff. I’ll just get used to not PVPing for a while.

  5. Sheol says:

The teleport buff seems good since it gets locks closer to a mage’s blink. (if only that circle wouldn’t be so predictable)

But that armor bonus looks like a bad joke. I haven’t done maths for it but at first sight is looks like an under 5% or so melee damage mitigation. Considering the fact that a rogue nukes a lock down in 3-5 seconds I don’t think such a small damage reduction could help here.

But what Blizz didn’t bring is any pve improvements - and we would need those cos in high end gear lock dps falls a bit behind other dps classes. (maybe Blizz tries to tell us to re-roll mages)

And also I see no mention of fixes to Immolate - which has an annoying bug which sometimes makes it not apply it’s dot effect on the target when clipping a previous Immolate.

@Rockeroad - I really don’t care much about shard changes. There are other issues I would like to see in 3.1 like a decent affliction rotation, a removal and re-work on some almost useless talents, some destro changes mainly in conflagrate/backdraft area (which atm seems like complicating rotation without providing a consistent dps increase), a little pve buff for demonology - maybe stronger demons (the big bad felguard gets pwned by any hunter’s kitty), making some other demons more useful(void, succubus, infernal, doomguard) and last but not least fixing lock pvp (gief real survivability not armor bonus jokes!)

Rockeroad, I know moaning wont change anything but surely they could have revamped warlocks during the development, testing and beta stages.

  7. Mogomra says:

Blizzard had TONS of feedback from skilled Warlocks during the Beta that clearly indicated what needed to be done to make the class viable in PVP in the expansion. All of this information was ignored, and Warlocks are in very sorry shape indeed - just like the Beta Warlocks predicted. And so are all of the other classes that lack the ability to deal or mitigate burst damage in Arenas. Blizzard had the data on hand to knew what was going to come to pass, but they did nothing.

And why should they? Blizzard has no impetus to correct these issues so long as you keep forking over $15 a month to play their broken game. There are far too many people that are willing either play an alt instead of withdrawing from the game until it is repaired. You can post on the official WoW forums until you’re blue in the face, but they will only listen to you until you stop giving them your hard-earned cash.

So put your Warlock on the shelf, cancel your WoW account, and do something else. That’s what I did, and I’m much happier for it. And maybe if we’re really lucky, Blizzard will have fixed Warlocks and actually balanced the game by the time the next expansion comes out… assuming that you’re not playing Warhammer or KOTOR by then, that is.

  8. Rockeroad says:

yes i know that many warlocks predicted that warlocks would not be a very well shape come the Xpac, i was on beta and i agreed. But i am a patient person. You should not just flat out cancel your account like Mog did. Be patient, the xpac launch mainly consisted of hybrid fixes which is good, means it is easier for them to get into groups and do good DPS. Most people complain that that would make them wanted and no pures would be wanted. The people who predicted that were wrong. Its a 50/50 chance to get a prediction right.

This is a small patch, the 3.0.x or 3.1.x are usually not big ones. The patches that bring a lot to the table are the larger ones with more changes. This patch saw changes to two classes on fairly minor details. While next patch we will hopefully get our complete overhaul that is long awaited.

Just be patient, dont cancel your account just because of a few months of PVP issues. That means you are not patient and want instant gradification. How do you think ret pallies felt Pre-bc? How bout mages or shamans? Those classes were in worse conditions than we were and yet you guys are complaining about this stuff and its only been 2 months since the release of wrath.

  9. Mogomra says:

Given the traditional, almost universal hatred towards Warlocks from most players, the constant stream of nerfs to the class, and the fact that all of the input that was provided by the Warlock community during the Beta was ignored, I think it’s understandable that Warlocks are a little upset with this situation. I have no patience with a company that releases a half-finished product that turns the most reviled class in the game into a free HK machine, and I suspect many other people have reached their wits’ end as well.

I’m not going to just sit around and give Blizzard $15 a month and wait for them to finish their game, and neither should you. I have very little confidence that they will be able to fix the classes and the game mechanics so that both PVE and PVP will be balanced within the next year. I’d rather spend that money on other video games.

And let’s not forget - Warlocks aren’t the only class that is suffering in PVP right now. I have nothing but sympathy for anyone that is trying to play a class in PVP that can neither deliver or mitigate burst damage. But until people start canceling accounts, I don’t think anything is going to change. There’s no pressure for Blizzard to act on - or even acknowledge - player feedback from people that really understand the game unless there’s a genuine threat of losing revenue from cancellations.

I’m willing to bet that if every Warlock, Priest, and Shaman that was fed up with the way their class has been handled canceled their WoW accounts tomorrow, Blizzard would take notice. But most WoW players are either too plugged into the game to do this, and that’s a damned shame.

  10. Sheol says:

@Rockeroad What if you have a warlock account and you’re a pvp guy with no interest in raiding? You suggest to wait for 3.1 fixes but until then what can you achieve in arena?

If a melee class is on you as lock you have no chance of surviving unless you get spam healing. Rogues, DKs, warriors and bubbled retadins can avoid our fears which leaves the lock with basically no defense.
And if the healer gets interrupted then your lock is dead in a matter of seconds with not much to do about it.
Of course you can get a chance with melee if they’re noobs or undergeared like you would find in battlegrounds but not in higher rating arenas.

The improved teleport circle that comes with 3.0.8 is a good change but it’s too predictable and it’s c/d is quite long while it’s effect can be easily canceled with a shadow step, intercept or death grip.

Compared to a mage we have less CC and survival abilities and we don’t pack so much instant nukes as them.
Let’s take an arcane mage which will have slow, frost novas, ice block and blink while a frost mage will change it’s slow for 2Xfrost novas (add the pet to it).
While their attacks are a lot faster than ours: arcane barrage, ice lance, a fire blast maybe. (and that when an arcanist won’t go pom+pyro which is easier obtainable in a pvp build than in TBC)
Another thing that could be pointed out is that lock’s stupid Shadowflame has no CC effect whatsoever while both similar mage spells are a lot better - namely Cone of Cold and Dragon’s Breath.
Also a mage’s Ice Armor brings better protection against 2-shot melee than what we got due to it’s slow movement and attack speed effects.

This discussion could get a lot longer but the conclusion is simple: If Blizz wants locks to survive in pvp then what locks need are improved CC and some viable instant nuke.

While it doesn’t matter so much what they plan to do in 3.1 - the game is here already, this is what they sold us and it’s in bad condition.
They got plenty of warnings regarding locks condition and since they screwed this class over they should get some asap fixes not promises for something which will be delivered in months.
I dunno what they expect pvp locks to do during those months…

  11. Mogomra says:

I really feel bad for Warlocks (and a number of other classes) that are on actual PVP servers. Those guys must be getting hammered right now. And when they are finally buffed to the point of viability, they’re going to have a hell of a time getting the gear they need to be competitive in Arenas - they’re going to be WAY behind the gear curve.

  12. Dan says:

People, am i the only one who doesn’t understand what all these bug fixes mean?
are they nerfing us? are the buffing us?
what the hell am i supposed to get from “Soul Siphon: Will now gain the correct damage modifiers for the creature type of the target.”?? is it going to be higher dmg now or lower? and they say this pretty much about every single important spell locks have!
are they saying all our damage until now was screwed up??
    what the hell?

  13. Henking says:

Aha, so we get buffed when the other classes collected their deadly set ;) great..

  14. Hazat says:

So other classes can still see our demonic circle? Yeah that’s helpful…

Hunter: A warlock, pew pew pew!

    Warlock: *teleport*

Hunter: *unable to find warlock do to clever circle placement… success!*

Warlock: *takes a moment to relax then suddenly falls over dead in 2 seconds*

Rogue: *triumphantly standing over lock corpse after having waited at the circle for said warlock to appear* Oh how I love doing that!

Also the circle only removes snares… not stuns. Y_Y

  15. tindy says:

guys come on…you kno were awesome…you should kno that we can recover from any patch thrown at us…
